The Road of Fate

"How much longer is this going to take?" my younger sister Adriana
complained as we headed near our destination. She was 15 years old, with long raven hair about shoulder length; her skin was pale and creamy with beautiful dark brown eyes but always seemed clouded with pain and emptines, although you can never tell with her vivacious attitude. We were always been close but I couldn’t help but notice over the years that we slowly started drifting apart. I
ignored her simple yet irritating question while blissfully staring out the window of the RV and watched intenlly at the unfamiliar surroundings. There were hardly any trees, for miles and miles everything passing through the window was rocks, sand, and enormous mountains looking as tall as the clouds. Feeling every rock beneath me as we hit bump after bump while occasionally fidgeting in my seat.
"Maybe if we take route and go off road, well get there twice as fast, San Diego should be just over those hills," my father said. He was a tall with masculine features. His eyes resembled orbs coated with pools of blue, he was not a man of fun or games and hardly ever showed emotion. "Why couldn’t we just have flown there like normal people?" my uncle Ben complained as we started to part from the road and into the vast land of nothingness.
My uncle was a very kind a reliable man. He had giant rough hands but was always gentle with them. "What’s wrong with driving, the fresh air and space is comforting" my mother replied. My mother was a typical overprotective mom. Although she wasn’t perfect she was always looking on the brighter side of every bad situation. "What, ever" Adriana dryly replied.
As we were driving farther and farther away from the road it looked as though the mountains we were trying to get around weren’t getting any closer and the tension in me grew while starting to regret ever going off road. We were now so far from the road; you could no longer see it without using binoculars. Just than my entire body jolted forward and collided with the hard cold floor as the van ran over something quite large if it could cause such damage.
"Is everyone alright" my uncle said while panting trying to catch his breath. "Yea, I’m ok, just broke the fall with my face" replying sarcastically. "Well that’s good to hear" Adriana shot back. "What was that?" my mother asked as we each got out of the van. Stepping onto the hard rocky surface a wave of heat crashed into me. Over whelmed by the amount of heat that surrounded me, my feet were ready to collapse. Examining the van’s condition we noticed every single tire was now completely flat. "There’s nothing here, we didn’t hit anything" Adriana flatly stated.

Puzzled at her statement my facial expression had gone from pain to confusion realizing she was right. There was absolutely nothing there and little rocks as fragile as the sand couldn’t have caused this. Quickly setting the thought in the back of my head we new we were going to have to spend the night in the middle of nowhere.
What none of them realized was that there was a pair of hungry savage eyes watching them from the distance. My mind was racing with uncomfortable thoughts knowing we had to spend the night in a completely unfamiliar isolated area. My family was already back inside the temporary house. Heading in the direction of the van my feet froze as hot breath began itch the dry skin on the back of my neck. My heart was pounding through my chest as though it were going to rip through.
Slowly dropping to the ground while being enveloped by blackness my last thought went unfinished. Unaware of what was happening, two sleepy eyes slowly cracked open. Feeling mixed emotions of panic and fright a jolt of pain shot through my body. Staring at disgust at the new horrifying site in front of me, the pain was now replaced with pure fear.
Feeling what was now before my eyes vomit covered the stone cold ground. I was sitting in a cave surrounded by corpses of disfigured or dismembered bodies. Frantically searching for an escape, I couldn’t help but think that my fate was going to be the same as the now dead corpses beside me. My only source of light was the small lamp dangling from the roof of the cave. Again the same jolt of pain shot through me. Looking down at my body sticky wet blood began to drip down my arms and legs.
Quickly my eyes traveled around my body searching for a cut or gash of some kind to produce so much blood. Disgust took over my mind realizing the blood was not mine, but was from mangled bodies around me. Confused while continuing to look for a way out while digging through the corpses. Relieved I found a small crack of light beneath the head of a dismembered body. While digging my fingers were bleeding from the amount of blisters that now covered my dry skin.
Finally I managed to create a hole large enough for my body. Pulling my body out starting with my legs, once again the heat covered my body. Panting and gasping for fresh air my lungs were replacing the odor of the corpses that were around me only moments ago.
Running blindly in the opposite direction, suddenly feeling so much pain as I ran into something firm and hard. Once again on the rocky ground I could feel eyes on me while slowly looking up. Staring in disbelief at the horrifying creature before my eyes. It was a man with no ears, but instead had small dents in the side of his head. His nose and eyes were also dismembered and were on the side of his face instead of the front. He was enormous and looked, as though he was 7 feet tall. Patterns of stitches covered his revolting body and looked as though most of the skin around him was different tones looking as though it wasn’t his.
"What am I?" the horrifying creature asked in a husky voice. Screaming in fright while running confused and afraid in the opposite direction. Looking back noticing the giant creature chasing me my eyes grew wide. My legs were starting to wear out but my mind wouldn’t let me stop moving. I reached the edge of a cliff now realizing the cave was on a mountain. Carefully but quickly my arms and legs worked down the mountain.
I was more afraid of the man than falling to my death. At this point the thing was no longer chasing me. Reaching the bottom, I suddenly collapsed in exhaustion. Staring for anywhere I could possibly rest or hide my eyes caught a glimpse of something. Getting up and again with the remaining strength left inside me I started to run toward it.
The image slowly started to come into view. Running faster with excitement as I realized it was the van! My legs wanted to give in, and pass out. But stopping wasn’t an option. Now at the door of the car, slowly bringing my bloody blistered hand up to the handle. I opened the door and was brought to my knees at the sight before my eyes. My family had been slaughtered. Screaming and crying not caring if I was heard. The last thing going through my mind was seeing my sister’s fragile body covered in blood as I was once again overcome by blackness. I welcomed my fate as I knew at that moment that this time, I wasn’t going to wake up.
